Pharmaceutical products.
Smaller blemishes can be treated with vitamin E or cocoa butter. Diminishing blemishes with vitamin E oil often works over the course of a few weeks, to as long as a couple of months. Another option is cocoa butter that can be applied to the blemish much the same way. Larger and deeper scars will need remedies that are found at your pharmacy. These products contain hydroquinone, kojic acid, and glycolic acid and have a bleaching effect on the skin and scar tissue. These products are a little more expensive than vitamin E or cocoa butter, but may do a better job.
Preferred methods
Sometimes a doctor is needed to reduce deep acne scars and blemishes that over the counter products cannot help. The most common procedure is called dermabrasion, or laser peel, and is the preferred method by doctors. A CO2 laser is usually used by the doctor to remove and resurface the top layers of skin. The new collagen and skin growth resulting from this method will smooth the skin out.
Chemabrasion.
For deeper scars another procedure called chemabrasion might be necessary. Chemabrasion uses chemicals to treat acne scars on the skin. Most doctors refer to this method as a chemical peel. Trichoracetic acid and glycolic acid are the chemicals used in chemabrasion to cause the skin to peel. A second application may be necessary if the acne scar is very deep A less traumatic and much faster method to reduce acne scars is the process of microdermabraision. Microdermabraision uses a sandblaster that gently buffs the shallow acne scars with fine crystals. New cell growth replaces the dead skin that is removed with a vacuum. This method may have to be repeated multiple times in order to remove the acne scar.Collagen injections may also be ordered by the doctor to treat the very deep scars. This injection of collagen under the acne scar will raise the scar up so that other methods will smooth out the skin.
The resulting social stigma of acne scars should no longer be an issue for people. You can always discuss
acne scar reduction treatments with your doctor if over the counter products aren't going to do the job. While the preferred method of treatment is dermabrasion,
acne scar repair can be done to even the deepest of scars, returning your complexion to a more natural look. New laser technology and the doctors who work on the
treatment of acne scars, has made the reduction of acne scars more successful than in the past.
