Famous women seem to magically drop their baby weight before they even leave the hospital
. But Im sorry to say that the rest of us may have to work at losing weight after pregnancy. But it doesnt have to be hard with these tips about how to lose weight after pregnancy.
Fluid Retention
If you notice swelling in your extremities or face, it may be from fluid retention. Dont worry, it happens pretty frequently to new mothers. Especially if you have IV fluids before, during, or after labor, this water weight may stick around for a couple of weeks. Dont worry! Water weight generally takes care of itself as your body will get rid of the extra water through urination and perspiration.; If you believe that you have retained water weight after you have given birth and it lasts more than 2-3 weeks, consult your doctor to make sure that theres not something more serious going on with your body.
How to Lose Weight after Pregnancy
Your appetite likely increased significantly during pregnancy and it make take some time for it to switch back to normal afterwards. Help it along by replacing fatty and sugary foods with healthier, nutritious snacks.
Consume more water. Avoid sodas and other high sugar drinks and turn to water to quench your thirst. If you get bored with plain water, try adding a few lemon slices. Make sure you are drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day.
Eat whole grains including bread, cereal and pasta whenever possible. White bleached grains have little or no nutrition value.
Cut out the fatty meats from your diet and replace them with fish and chicken whenever possible.
If you are breastfeeding your baby, then you are burning about 500 calories a day, (as well as helping to strengthen your babys immune system). If you are breastfeeding, make only slight changes in your diet. Depriving your body of the energy it needs to make milk for your baby can be bad for both you and your baby. Strict, limiting diets can cause the release of toxins into your system and into the milk you body produces.
Start low impact, light exercise such as walking as soon as you feel comfortable, (and have time) to do so. You can take your baby with you on your walks in a stroller or baby sling. Inviting a friend to go with you at a set time each day or every few days can help you remain motivated to continue walking.
Yoga and other non-impact or low-impact exercises are also a great place to start the journey of how to lose weight after pregnancy.
Stay motivated but remember that it took your body 9 months to get to this weight, and it may take up to a year to fully lose it. That is completely ok and nothing to worry about.
