. Not only women, even men are taking a keen interest in their appearance and are therefore using cosmetic products especially meant for them. The product range is varied and in fact there are various companies who have launched their line of cosmetics for men. However, cosmetics contain harmful chemicals that might have an adverse effect on the skin.
Cosmetics should be bought carefully so that you do not end up buying products that have a high chemical content. The products that should be bought exercising sufficient caution include deodorants, perfumes, hair colouring products, creams and shampoos, sunscreen lotion, and makeup.
1) Deodorants: A study revealed that deodorants contain aluminium salts which when applied to the skin beneath the arms can cause breast cancer and even Alzheimer's disease. An integral ingredient of deodorants is the natural compound called ammonium alum makes up the deodorant crystals. This is commonly found in antiperspirants.
2) Perfumes: Perfumes are believed to have been made from synthetic musk that is absorbed by the skin. It can have an adverse effect on the endocrine system. The effect of polycyclic musk is still the subject of scrutiny while nitrate musk has been declared to be safe.
3) Hair Colour: Hair colour contains elements such as toluendiamine, butoxy-diglycol and butoxy ethanol. The chemicals contained in the hair colour can result in a series of adverse effects and these include hair breakage, skin irritation or allergies and skin discoloration. Colouring your hair frequently can have an adverse effect on the health of your hair.
4) Creams and Shampoos: Shampoos, skin care products, soaps, shaving products and shower gels contain a number of ingredients. It is recommended that consumers take a note of the same while buying a particular cosmetic. Siloxans and silicones, tensioactives, paraffin oils and emulsifiers should be watched out for much like antioxidants, ethoxydiglycol and phenoxyethanol all of which are considered to be harmful.
5) Sunscreen Lotions: Researches have proved that the chemical UV filters that are an integral component of all sunscreen lotions and creams should be used by exercising caution. When you
buy cosmetics, it is necessary to exercise sufficient caution.
6) Makeup: Your makeup kit may be stacked with blushers, foundation, lip and eye makeup, but it is important to check whether they are safe for use on sensitive skin.
It is advisable to use cosmetics that are made of natural ingredients such as oleic acid or oils, honey, vitamin E, fumaric acid or fruits, chamomile, tannic acid or leaves, algae, beeswax and honey. These are all natural ingredients and therefore you can be sure of the fact that they are not going to harm your skin.
While buying cosmetics, it is important to keep a few factors in mind. Do not get carried away by the commercials and buy an expensive cream or shampoo when you see your favourite celebrities endorsing the same. It might not be suitable for your skin and you may have to endure its side effects.
