The Quest for Real Beauty
Beauty Like it or not, beauty is an enormous part of our lives
. Everyday we are bombarded with images of beauty and suggestions on how to become more beautiful. We see it on TV advertisements, on magazines, on the Internet and on blogs. In everyday occurrences, such as in the office or on a sidewalk, we may see heads of men turn at the sight of a beautiful woman walking past. In a caf, we may hear girl friends talking about makeup application, botox or cosmetic surgery.
There has been much clamour on beauty that multinational companies and small businesses have tapped into this multibillion market and are making millions of dollars to make us all look good and feel great.
But what is real beauty? What is it that will make us look good and feel great? Is it really just skin deep? Is it about the makeup, the clothes, and the shoes? Is it about the glitzy glamour ads, the wonder cosmetic or surgery that will change our lives forever?
Maybe it is something more.
Beauty, in our opinion, is about the balance of presenting ourselves well, caring for our skin and our bodies, while maintaining an active, healthy and happy life. Yes, one small part of beauty includes the clothes, the makeup and the hair. But only to the extent that it accentuates our raw material, what is naturally there. Makeup shouldn't be used to change our facial features, but highlight the natural beauty of our face. In the same way that fashionable clothes and accessories should make us look updated and fresh, but not overly done that it makes us look like a fashion victim.
The other part of beauty though is not something we could put on. It has to do with what we eat, how active we are, and the lifestyle choices we make.
Beauty is what we eat. If we eat junk, we feed our bodies junk. If we choose healthier food options, then this not only makes us feel healthier, but it also makes us look healthier as well. Not only are we more fit, but our skin is smoother and maybe even glowing as well.
Beauty is also about how active we are. The obvious outcome of being active is a leaner physique. But added to that, studies have repeatedly shown that exercise also reduces stress hormones. As we manage stress better, then we also achieve a healthier body and a happier life.
Beauty is also closely linked to the lifestyle choices we make. Smoking and drinking will take a toll not only on our bodies, but also on our skin, which will make us age faster. Relaxation, meditation, the effective management of stress, and even an optimistic outlook in life all help in creating a peaceful mind and a balanced sense of wellbeing, which all have profound effects on our skin and bodies.
Beauty then starts with Wellness. If our mind and body are well, beauty will exude from within. So always remember to eat right, be active, be optimistic, smile, relax and have fun.
