The One Thing Principal: How to finally stick to a diet
You walk into the office of some nutritional expert
, personal trainer or whoever. You ask for advise on your diet. The expert gives you, say, 10 points to turn your miserable diet into a meaningful strategy for optimum health and performance. You say thank you, pay him/her handsomely, go home and do all 10 things perfectly. Yeah, right!
Fairy tales do happen, but not to most people. Most people, and I guess you are one, have a problem with getting a diet and then sticking to it. There is a reason people go and see professionals to help them with their diets. If they could do it on their own, they wouldn't need to see anyone. Since I am getting payed to help people look, feel and perform better, the one thing I needed to sort out was how to get people to stick to a good nutritional plan.
This is where the One Thing Principal comes in. It helps you with what to eat as well as how to change your diet. Now, I know that when you go to see some experts, they usually give you an exact diet, typed out and formal. We do it a bit differently. I am not going to go into why I believe people don't stick to diets from nutritionists, etc. I am just going to tell you what works great for us.
Firstly, the One Thing Pricipal tells you what to eat, and that is - wait for it - REAL FOOD. It might sound silly, but if you start out by doing just this one thing, you will be amazed at what will happen to your overall health and even your physique. The reason this works so well is because of what you don't get in, even more than what you do get in. Before you worry about which fat burner to take or how much protein you should consume over how many meals per day, start by doing this one thing, eat real food. Simplicity works great for most people, much better than trying to follow a set-in-stone diet from whoever. Please don't try to maneuver out of the real food label by acting dumb. You know what real food looks like. When in doubt, ask a child.
Secondly, the One Thing Principal tells you how to change your diet and that is - wait for it again - ONE THING AT A TIME. Instead of diving head first into a brand new diet and giving up 4 weeks later because you can not stick to it, why not start by changing one habit at a time? Look at what you can do right now that you feel is within your capability. You might decide to eat more frequently. Great! For now, do not worry about any other rules. Eat real food more frequently. If you feel comfortable after a few weeks or so, add another good habit. You might decide to include more veggies in all your meals. Continue in this fashion and I can almost guarentee more success at getting onto a healthier way of eating, or diet, if you like.
Obviously there are much more to good eating habits than these two points of the One Thing Principal, but this remains the cornerstone of our diet plan, called the Logical Diet. We see a much higher success rate when people follow this route to a healthier lifestyle. So go out there, get your courage together one more time and then see if the One Thing Principal will not help you change your diet, this time for real!
