Losing excess weight and maintaining a healthy body weight is therefore just as important as quitting smoking in order to prevent or reduce the risk of a large number of chronic condition.

Adipose tissue (body fat) does not only store unused energy that is obtained through food but also functions as a gland that is producing important hormones and inflammatory substances that play a major role in how to organs of the body work. The excess growth of adipose tissue should be therefore considered just as concerning as any other growths on the body because it a sign of unbalance in the body which can lead to a development of numerous diseases and disorders.

The human body stores unused energy (which is obtained in form of calories through food) as fat. Excessive consumption of foods that have a high calorie content and an increasingly sedentary lifestyle can therefore lead only to excess body fat. However, the weight-loss diets that are currently popular are not an effective way to fight off the excess body fat. Why? Because most of the diets are based on drastic caloric restrictions and this results in short lasting effects and frustration. In addition, many weight loss diets are ineffective due to the body's exceptional ability to extract energy from food.

The only effective way to lose weight as well as to maintain a healthy body weight is to avoid mass-produced highly caloric food products and return to the diet the human body is adjusted to - plant foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
