Whilst there may be dozens of popular diets available that you can use to lose weight

, more often than not if you simply look at your eating habits, carry out some basic research into which foods are good for you and which aren't and throw in a bit of common sense, you should be able to put together a healthy eating plan that you can abide by each week.

However, it's understandable if you're new to healthy eating that ideas may not come as freely as for someone who's been doing it for years and therefore to give you a helping hand, take a look through the following 4 meal ideas.

1. For breakfast, give your cereal a bit of a boost by ditching the milk and using low fat natural yoghurt in its place. Add a handful of blueberries and a banana and apart from the fact you've now got a fantastically healthy, nutritious and tasty breakfast, you've also fit in 2 of your '5 A Day'.

2. Lunch can be a problem for some, as it can be difficult to come up with imaginative yet healthy meal ideas that you can take to work, often resulting in you either taking a homemade sandwich or salad or going out and purchasing something, which will often be particularly unhealthy.

A great meal idea for lunch is wholegrain fusilli pasta mixed with tuna, sweet corn, red onion and peppers. Add a bit of mayonnaise and a sprinkling of cheese, prepare the night before and you've got yourself a tasty and healthy lunch.

3. Although you may not believe it, it's always recommended to snack throughout the day, so to ensure that your metabolic rate remains high between meals, meaning you continue to digest and process your food quicker.

Snacking on fruit is great, but if you're looking for something a little different, try cutting up cucumber, celery and carrot into sticks and taking them to work with a pot of low fat humus (homemade, if possible).

4. Many diets recommend that you have something along the lines of chicken breast, potatoes and vegetables for dinner and whilst this is a great meal, it can become boring and therefore reduce your motivation.

For a change, don't look at changing your whole meal, just looking at tweaking parts.

Using the chicken, potatoes and vegetables as an example, still have a chicken breast, but rather than receiving your carbohydrates from potatoes, place the chicken into a wholegrain pitta bread instead and substitute your vegetable portions with a salad, placed into the pitta, too.

Add some grated cheese and you've got yourself a meal that features everything you need food wise, but which is a lot more appealing.
