WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM?
Rocket German is available as a set of CDs or as a download. The system has videos, software, and special audio recordings. In addition to that, you get access to the "Learning Lounge" where you can test your progress, and communicate with other users and teachers.
The basic method is teaching German by a process called "visual association". You learned your mother tongue by visual association. You SAW something and HEARD the word for it at the same time. In this manner you effortlessly and quickly picked up the meanings of words. Rocket German attempts to replicate the process with the use of video, audio, and software.
DOES IT WORK?
IF you are ready to work with the program in a consistent way,
Rocket German can be extremely powerful. Ideally, you should try to view the lessons for some time each day (30min to 1hr at least). The lessons are made to build on each other. Therefore, being consistent is crucial.
Learning a language is alot like learning to ride a bike. For the first little while you may think that you are not getting anywhere. If you persist, however, you will hit a point where things suddenly "fall into place". You will find that you are suddenly able to hear most of the words in the audio recordings and can create basic sentences easily.
You can then add more vocabulary and advanced grammar to your repertoire.
IS IT THE BEST WAY TO GO FOR EVERY STUDENT?
Some students find it hard to focus unless there is some outside pressure like an upcoming "exam" or a teacher checking their "homework".
Rocket German is a self-paced system. It is very powerful but you must provide the follow-through yourself
If you feel you might need the pressure of a classroom setting in order to take action, consider classes at a local college. Keep in mind that classroom instruction will cost much more and will take longer.
