In addition, it is only in the recent years that females in China are breaking away from closed mindset and still in the process of gaining social and financial independence. The women of the older generations preferred to stay put with an unfaithful husband rather then returning to their parental homes and causing social, emotional and financial distress for them. Since the number of Chinese men indulging in adultery was quite high, they could hardly hope to find a better life mate elsewhere.
