Proper Guitar Posture - Improve The Quality You Play In Many Aspects

For guitarists that are self-taught, taking the time to play with proper guitar posture

will substantially improve the quality of sound you create with your instrument. These are just a few ways that having good posture when playing can improve the sound you create with the guitar.

* You'll have stronger chords from correct strumming.

With a few tweaks to your posture, you can create stronger chords that ring longer when played. Keep the strumming of your hand in a very distinct path that strikes each of the strings evenly for a broad vibration.

* Your strings will ring balanced.

Along with the idea of stronger chords, your chords should sound much more balanced with the practice of proper guitar posture. If you're careful to strike each string evenly as your arm swings through its path, the chord will not sound like it has too much high or low end, but with just the right amount of balance.

* Reaching notes farther apart on the fret board will be easier.

It's good practice to play with your fret hand perpendicular to the fret board when you're on the guitar. This allows for maximum reaching capabilities when it comes time to finger notes that are a bit farther than you would like.

* Reaching notes will be faster.

When your hand is poised and ready in the perpendicular orientation to the guitar neck, each reachable note can be touched quicker. Put that proper guitar posture to work and you can have notes coming out of your fret hand faster than you did before.

As much as practicing the guitar with posture is important for the improvement of your sound, generally, it looks good and can brand you as a professional. Of course the crowd is going to want to hear you play, but first impressions can be powerful when you look the part.

So what can better posture mean for an audience?

* People will assume you know what you're doing.

Hey, if you look like you're fumbling around, slouched in a chair, people will assume you've taught yourself and don't know what you're doing. Throw some proper guitar posture into the mix and it will be a whole other story.

* The crowd is more likely to pay attention.

Doesn't it seem like someone without any credentials is boring or unappealing? Replace that person with someone of confidence and professionalism and they'll hang on your every word... or guitar note.

* They'll want to come back.

You want your crowd to come back and even if your playing style wasn't the best, have them remember that you played like a professional. There are so many guitarists and musical acts that can't get anywhere because they refuse to shape up.

This will be your chance to pass those musicians up with your proper guitar posture.

So, the next time you feel like slouching, twisting your arm around, or strumming out of control. Remember the effects that it can have on not only your playing, but your appearance as well.
