It is crucial for mixed martial arts fighters to have an effective pre fight diet to enhance their performances during intense fights. It is important that they are getting the right nutrients from food to provide them endurance and strength in strenuous trainings.
Vigorous activities consumes large amount of energy. To maintain the sufficient amount of blood sugar levels in the body, it is recommended that they eat small frequent meals than usual as the fight gets closer. Nutritionist and dieticians would include brown bread sandwiches, cereals and fruits in their pre fight diet. Also, they are not allowed to eat those which are not included in their fight diet plan. Aside from weight gain, this is to prevent fighters from unwanted gastrointestinal problems like constipation and stomach ache.
A mixed martial fighter should also maintain enough water in the body. Water is always part on any fight diet plans. It is essential that fighters are drinking at least 10 glasses of water everyday. Strenuous trainings can cause water loss as a fighter perspires too much. It is important that these water losses are replenished quickly to prevent dehydration. Three hours before the fight, a fighter is also recommended to drink 450 to 600 ml of water.
Post Fight Diet
Why do they need a post fight diet plan? Isnt it the same with the pre fight diet? Pre and post fight diet plans have different roles. If pre fight diet is to provide energy and increase its endurance, a post fight diet is more on body recovery.
After a fight, a fighter could have damages in the body and it is essential that these damages, maybe it internal or external damages are dealt quickly. This is to prevent long term health problems. A post fight diet is for effective body recovery. This can be done by restoring glycogen levels that prevents the consumption of the body of its own muscle mass for more energy.
A fighter must eat more proteins and carbohydrates after the fight for muscle tissue repair. Within the six hours after the fight, he or she should eat the same meals. It is recommended that they are eating every two hours within this six hour period after they can go back to their ordinary diet.
Tips for a fighter to maintain being healthy:
1.A fighter should eat six meals a day or at least not less than five meals.
2.For the fighter to keep their insulin level to an ideal level, they should eat every three to four hours.
3.A fighter should include nutritious food in their fight diets like vegetables, fruits and pasta. These foods contains many useful vitamins and minerals, it also contains fiber which is good for the body, for it allows the body to function great and as effective as possible. It is recommended that a fighter should have 25 to 35 grams of high fiber intake regularly.
4.A fighter should regularly eat starchy food like whole grain cereal and yams. These also help maintain energy levels to best way possible.
5.A fighter must regularly take multi vitamins for them to be sure that their bodies are absorbing the necessary vitamins for them to train and perform better.
6.A little snack before bedtime is recommended for fighters. He or she may eat toasted whole bread. Remember not to have carbohydrates for it cannot be burned by the body while sleeping.
7.Last and the most important is a fighter should always drink plenty of water for them to avoid dehydration. Lack of water intake regularly will greatly affect a fighter's performance.
