Picking Out The Perfect Wedding Gift

Wedding presents are tricky things to pick out

. Every couple is different with varying tastes and interests. Finding the right gift can take hours of thought and pondering, especially if you're like me and loath wedding registries. There are some things I've learned about picking out the right gift that I'll happily share.

If you're not great friends with the couple and aren't sure about their specific interests, remember that a gift card is always in style. I can't tell you how I loved getting free money in the form of a gift card. And the best ones we received weren't necessarily to places I'd think of going. We had a few people give us gift cards to local restaurants. It was a great way to go out and not feel guilty about spending too much money in those first impoverished months. Some gift cards even came with movie tickets as well so we could really make a date out of it.

If you're more familiar with the couple's tastes, kitchen supplies are fun to shop for. I'd hesitate buying full dish and china sets for someone if you're not sure what they need exactly but a few fun pieces can make any kitchen spark up. Take into consideration the couple's style when choosing dishes or flat ware. Are they a formal Royal Doulton Collection type or more like us who went for plain white plates for our set? Do they like vintage style or are they more modern? There are many things to think about when choosing kitchen and dining accessories for someone but some of my favorite gifts came in the form of a few dishes here and a pretty pitcher there.

If the couple is the outdoors type a good themed gift can be a fun idea. For instance, if they are into camping, buy them a new tent and some sleeping pads. If that's a little out of your budget, think about a simpler themed gift like some hot dog roasting sticks, a few packs of tin foil and a couple of cans of spam. Or something else more appetizing. Any themed gift pack can be fun and easy to fit to a budget. If the couple is the movie watching type make a gift basket with a DVD, a box of microwave popcorn, and a rolled up fleece blanket.

Buying a wedding present for friends or even just acquaintances doesn't have to be a stressful undertaking. Make it fun and give yourself time to go shopping and really put some thought into what you're buying. For a couple marrying in a state far from home, browse online wedding stores and have their gift shipped. You'll be happy that you got every thing all squared away. Whatever you choose to do, make sure to include a card with your name on it. I can't tell you how many anonymous gifts I received at our wedding that never got a thank you note because I didn't know who it was from.
