A Token Of Your Love: Choosing Your Man's Wedding Band

So much attention is paid to women's diamond engagement rings and wedding band sets that it seems as if poor men have been forgotten altogether

. Rings should be a mutual token of your love: they are definitely not for women only. Although the concept of men wearing wedding bands has only been popular for the last 100 years, most of today's new grooms like the idea of wearing a personal and visual symbol of their commitment. Here are some tips for choosing your man's wedding band.

Consider his personality and lifestyle

If your man is the rugged outdoorsy type, then you should probably choose a style as well as a metal that will be able to withstand his active lifestyle. Don't limit yourself by your own preconceived notions of what a wedding ring should look like: no, it doesn't have to be yellow gold, in other words! In fact, it doesn't even have to be gold at all. Consider one of the "new" metals such as tungsten carbide: it is 10 times harder than gold and 4 times stronger than titanium. In fact, it's called the "permanently polished ring" because it can take a beating and still look brand new. Tungsten wedding bands are masculine as well as practical, and they don't cost as much as gold either.

If your husband-to-be enjoys wearing jewelry and wants a little more flair than a plain band, it's perfectly OK to get him a wedding band with diamonds or gemstones. He should probably not wear it while playing sports, however, or if his job demands tough manual labor since a gemstone may come loose under stressful conditions. Rather than a plain band, he might like to have one that is woven or has some other type of intricate design. Fortunately, jewelry makers have recognized that the men's wedding band market is a good one and have become more creative in their designs of late.

Comfort

Many men stop wearing their wedding bands or hesitate to wear them at all because of comfort concerns: unlike women, men are not always willing to suffer any kind of discomfort that they think is unnecessary! For maximum comfort, choose a style that has an inside curvature (rather than a tube design), so that it will conform more naturally to his finger's shape. If he has relatively small hands, you should choose a slimmer design that won't be too cumbersome. After all, you want him to be comfortable enough that he will enjoy wearing his ring for the rest of his life. Remember, it's what HE likes that matters, not what YOU would like to see on him.

If you are unsure about his tastes in rings, go window shopping together and pay attention to what he likes. Choosing your future husband's wedding band is a big decision that shouldn't be made too quickly.
