No Account Courier Shipping
The standard model of shipping with a courier company is to open an account with that company
. Account holders can then simply place a request for service and have the courier immediately dispatch someone to make the pickup. They will then be billed at the end of the billing period for any services which they ordered in the determined timeframe. However, some people don't use their Chicago delivery service enough, so they don't really want to open an account.
This is a problem with some courier companies. There are couriers out there who will only provide their services to clients that are willing to open accounts with them. They might do this for a number of different reasons. They may feel that they are protecting themselves financially by only offering services to account holders. They may also not want to go through the hassle of having to collect payments from those people shipping without accounts.
This doesn't mean that you can't ship without an account with a courier. All it means is that you have to find a courier company that does provide this type of shipping. There are companies out there who do this; you may simply have to shop around through a few companies in order to find one that does.
Shipping without a courier account has a few disadvantages though, although you could also say there are some upsides. The downsides are that you may end up paying more for shipping, will have to pay for your shipping upfront, and won't have certain services available to you. Most couriers have a web portal where clients can access advanced courier software. If you're not an account holder, usually only the most basic features of the software will be available to you, such as order tracking. Some couriers do now have a way for non account holders to place orders online with their credit cards.
The upside to shipping without a courier account is that it gives you a way to shop around and compare the various courier companies that are out there. Sometimes it is very difficult to decide which courier company you should be doing most of your business with. If you ship with a few different companies without an account, you can get a real feel for their customer service, prices, and shipping speeds, and can make a much more informed decision about who you actually want to open an account with.
