Let Your Child Know He Is The Cititzen Of A Great Nation by:Sudha Gupta

Out of all the identities of your child, one is that of an Indian

. Let him feel proud of this identity.

India today is the fastest growing economy. One- third of the engineers in the Silicon Valley of California (U.S.A) are Indians. As we reach the 59th year of independence, we have a lot of reasons to applaud ourselves and we still have a long way to go. Our coming generation is the true power of India, let's make it feel proud of its roots.

Discuss with your child the progress of our nation: Don't look at what remains to be achieved but what we have achieved since our independence. Let your child know how our country has made advancement in the field of education, infrastructure, technology.

Never demean your country: As elders we often criticize the dearth of facilities and the sorry state of affairs in the country. But remember we are only 59 years old democracy as against 250 years old independent America! Tell your child there are people who may be misusing the nation's resources but our nation has the potential to be a super power.

Take a stand for the country with your child: Motivate your child that freedom comes with responsibilities. Prepare him to assume greater roles in life which not only benefit him but his fellow citizens as well. You can start by involving him in small projects like a cleanliness of neighbourhood, planting of trees, education of poor children in the area and so on.

Tell your child the uniqueness of your nation: India is the envy of the whole world with its vast resources, rich culture and traditions, a legacy of beautiful customs of family and love. Let your child realize the value of these invaluable advantages we have over other nations of the world.

Celebrate the joy of Independence with your child: Independence day is the day when we all got freedom, isn't that a reason to celebrate? Decorate the house with Flags, sing the national anthem, dance on patriotic numbers, tell your child how we became independent, tell him about the freedom fighters. Let him feel one with his nation, so that he doesn't use 'Motherland' just as a term but also believes in it.

Parenting Tip : Rouse respect for the country in your child, just the way you do for your home so that he feels fortunate to be born in a nation like India.
