Here's the scoop: When you hop on the treadmill for an hour and slowly jog while reading a book or watching TV, you'll burn off all the available carbs that your body has stored for energy. After that point, your body will start burning fat and muscle tissue to keep you going. Sounds good at first right?

The problem is that when you burn off your muscle tissue, it causes your body's metabolism to drop, decreasing the amount of calories that your body burns every day to maintain itself.

So sure you may be burning off some fat, but reducing your muscle will only make it harder to get thinner and keep the weight off. Instead you should focus on intense activities that build muscle, like intense running, hiking, and weight lifting.

As your body builds lean muscle, your metabolism will go up, making it easier to lose weight and keep it off for good.
