How Wedding Plans Are Made

. The dress drapes over her little frame and she would walk right out of the shoes with her tiny feet. To us she looks cute and comical. Her reflection shows her a fairytale princess, beautiful beyond our imagination, about to be married to a handsome and brave prince. This little girl has just started planning a wedding that is still almost twenty years away. The seeds of this beautiful wedding have been sown not only in her mind but also in the young and fertile fields of her eight-year-old heart. When she goes to sleep at night, she dreams of a blissful marriage in a cartoon like world where everything is sweet and the sun is shining brightly.
A little girl of twelve sees her mother's wedding gown for the first time as it is taken out of mothballs and taken to the cleaners. As her mother sits on the couch with her and tells her the love story behind each photograph that is almost all that is left of her wedding, she dreams vaguely of her own wedding someday and how beautiful it will be. She imagines herself as a princess, but now she also sees herself in her mother's gown, with her mother's smile and for the first time, she imagines what her future husband will look like and what kind of gentle, and caring man he will be. In her mind, he is a lot like her father. She is adding to a dream that started several years ago. When she goes to sleep at night, she is surrounded by the members of her family that love and support her. Her wedding is more realistic and the bright sun is shining sweetly in the clear blue sky.
A young woman of seventeen sees herself in a mirror at the mall. As she holds her potential prom dress in front of her, her mother speaks of a day when they will pick out her wedding dress and softly tells her of the wonderful life that awaits her. This young girl is adding another piece of her wedding day plans to a collection of ideas and ideals that have been instilled in her over her short life only now; she has a firmer grasp of what kind man her husband will be. She has realized that hard work and a dedication of the heart will one day mold the kind of person her son or daughter will be. As she tries on the prom dress and sees how beautiful she is becoming, she cannot help but see the princess that stood in the mirror not so long ago. When she goes to sleep tonight, she will dream of her wedding and her family and beyond into a life and family of her own. She is still surrounded by loved ones and the sun is shining blissfully in the sky.
A young woman of twenty-four stands at the alter in the most beautiful wedding dress she has ever seen. She can feel its beauty on her skin and cannot help but feel like the princess she had forgotten about long ago. It is beautiful because it is hers and she will treasure it always. Her young man stands beside her and when he looks at her, she knows in her heart that she is a princess; at least, she is to him. This is the moment and the wedding she has planned for sixteen years and although it was hard, and at times, tedious work, it was worth every second. It is just like in her dreams and she is happier now than she ever thought possible. The three images she had of this moment have come together to make this one, beautiful moment that she will never forget. When they step outside to be announced, the sun is shining gloriously in the sky, just as she knew it would be.
As she takes her gown out of a hallway closet and unzips the garment bag, her daughter looks on in amazement of how beautiful the wedding dress is. She shows her mementos like her treasured wedding guest book and the wedding pen she has saved all these years. She takes out the photo album and tells her daughter the story of love that dwells within each picture and when she goes to sleep this night, she will dream of how beautiful her daughter will be on her wedding day. The sun shines majestically in the sky.
