Weight loss is a tricky thing for many people. Some try their whole lives unsuccessfully to lose a few or many pounds without success. But there are a few tricks to losing weight that have been proven affective over the years.

If you're looking to lose some weight, start with the basics. Before buying expensive weight loss vitamins and products, go on a good, healthy diet and start and exercise plan. Dieting doesn't mean starving yourself. Find out what the daily recommended intake of calories is for your age and height and then set a good, healthy diet based on that number. Start by cutting out things you may normally eat that lead to weight gain like fried foods, excess sugar, and foods with empty calories like soft drinks. Substitute healthy snacks during the day; things like carrot sticks and graham crackers are great things to eat that will stave off hunger until meal time.

Exercise is also important. Don't start an overly ambitious exercise plan that you will be unable to follow. Start by having a goal to walk a half hour 3 times a week. Bump it up to four or five times after a few weeks. By gradually building up your endurance, you'll be able to maintain at least some type of exercise program and eventually be able to do more strenuous and cardio-vascular workouts.
