How To Burp A Baby?

Feeding a baby is an exhilarating experience for any new parent

. It can also be a little nerve-racking, particularly if you don't know what to anticipate. So here's a quick know-how to an important aspect of feeding burping.

Burping helps the baby to get liberated of some of the air that it tends to ingest during feeding. In some babies, not being burped regularly and too much swallowed air can lead to spitting up, discomfort, and flatulence.

When to burp?

Burping should be performed:

After every single feed

When you change breast for feeding

During feeding when baby shows fussiness or discomfort

If you have been burping your baby for a couple minutes and the baby doesn't get a burp, try changing the position and try yet again.

Methodology

There are 3 fundamental positions for burping a baby. Regardless of what position you use, keep in mind to use a tender stroke. There is absolutely no need to thump your baby's back or use more than moderate pressure. There is no single right/wrong position for every baby, and what works at one feeding may not work the next time. Start with the position that feels most at ease to you and your little one and experiment to find the position that works best for your baby. You can try any of the following methods.

Over the shoulder, against your chest Hold up your baby against your chest, so that his chin is resting on your shoulder. Hold up his head with one hand and massage or tap your baby's back with the other hand. Try this while you sit gently in a rocking manner to get the best results.

Face down in your lap, on his belly Place your baby transversely across your lap with his head resting on one leg and his stomach across the other. Be certain his head is turned to the side. Support your baby with one hand and tenderly pat or stroke with the other hand.

Baby sitting up in your lap, across your knee Place your baby sitting up in your lap with his body inclined in the forward position. Support his chest and head with one of your hands by inserting your palm underneath his chin. Be cautious to not to grip your baby's gullet. Use your other hand to softly stroke or pat your baby's backside.

Burping your baby keeps him at ease and allows him to gulp down a full meal. Remember to burp your baby after every session of feeding. Negligence on your part can lead to grave consequences, so no matter how tired you are, burp your infant.
