How Not To Create The Perfect Wedding Table Plan

So, your wedding plans are starting to come together

, and it's time to sort out that wedding table plan. Should be a breeze. Nothing to it. Go and grab a pencil and a sheet of paper and we'll get started straight away. Ought to be finished before Coronation Street starts. Here's a handy step by step guide to creating the (less than) perfect wedding table plan:

Step 1. Don't bother going back to the venue to check and re-check the room. You'll only waste time and give yourself more to worry about. First impressions count, right? So base your wedding table plan on your first impression. It's bound to be right, and if you're off by a few centimetres, the odd door or a table or two, what's the worst that could happen?

Step 2. Don't over-prepare. You know the type of person who over-prepares for everything, with reams of paper, a dozen pens, a protractor set a maths teacher would be proud of and probably a handy tool on the computer? What a waste of your valuable time!

Don't listen to the geeks who think that creating a wedding table plan is like some sort of military operation. Just grab a napkin, an old biro and have fun sketching out a few doodles whilst you're at the pub tomorrow evening. It's bound to work out. It always does in fairy tales, and you never hear of the princess sweating away for hours redrafting our her wedding table plan do you? And she probably had half the kingdom coming.

Step 3. Divide the number of guests by the number of people that can sit round one table. That's how many tables you need. Draw that number of tables onto your napkin. Once you've done that, simply go through your list of guests from top to bottom, copying the names out to the tables, starting with table 1. If you find a couple being split up across different tables, that doesn't matter. After all, it gives people a chance to meet people they don't normally have a chance to chat with.

Step 4. If you find that having done all that you've still got some drink left and a few spare minutes, why not have a bit of fun and stick all of the single people onto one table? After all, weddings are about love and romance. How cool would it be to act as cupid at your own wedding?

Step 5. Once you've finished your wedding table plan, fold it up, stick it safely in a drawer or a box or somewhere, and then forget about it. Job done. Now you can get started on the really important aspects of your wedding such as choosing the menu, the drinks, the songs and the size of cake. Once the wedding gets a bit nearer you might fish out the old napkin, flatten it out a bit and maybe Blu-Tack it somewhere so guests know where to sit.

By following this quick and easy five point plan you're sure to find your wedding table plan works brilliantly, and you can feel really smug about saving so much time. Next time your friends whinge about creating their table plans, you can simply smile knowingly, and reminisce about your perfect, trouble free fairy tale wedding.
