How I Beat Infertility

When my husband and I got married, having children wasn't in our best interest - at least not at that early stage. We took the usual and necessary precautions to avoid having children, arrogantly assuming that we could always have children later on in life. Five years passed before we decided that we were ready. We finally set out on our quest to have a baby.

The problem is, it didn't happen. No matter how many times we tried, I just wasn't getting pregnant. And we didn't know why.

By that time, I was in my mid-30s. Although past the optimal age of fertility, I was still healthy and strong, and neither I nor my husband had any reason to believe that we would face problems when we tried to conceive. So we just kept trying.

Sex became strategic and purposeful. Dictated by my temperature, it lost excitement and passion.

It wasn't long before our relationship started to suffer. One year had passed, and I still hadn't become pregnant. I started to feel worried. What if I was infertile? What if my husband was infertile? What if I would never hold my own baby? The worry turned into a fear.

I fell into depression and became very moody. Panic attacks and bursting into tears became commonplace. Seeing other women bear children became painful. I wanted to know what was wrong with me. Just why couldn't I get pregnant? It seemed easy enough for other women. What was wrong with me?

"Non-Specific Infertility"Frustrated and scared, my husband and I sat down for a serious talk. We both decided that it was time to seek some answers. We had put off fertility tests for fear of what we might learn. It was now time to face our fears and get tested for infertility.

We had the tests and waited for the answers. To our surprise and frustration, we were told that there was no specific reason as to why we were unable to conceive. There weren't any problems with my reproductive system, nor my husband's. Neither of us bore any symptoms reflective of infertility. In other words, the "experts" just didn't know what the problem was. Our case was dubbed "non-specific infertility", and we were told to just keep trying. That's when I decided to take matters into my own hands. If the experts couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting pregnant, I was going to do it.

14 Years of Intense ResearchFollowing our tests, I set out on a mission to research everything that I could about infertility and pregnancy. I digested numerous books, articles and research papers. It was an obsession. I became a common face at the library, where I would sit for hours, flicking through stacks of books, medical journals and magazines about infertility, hormonal imbalance, Chinese medicine, nutrition, and alternative health treatments. I also started buying loads of books. Before long, my personal library at home grew to over 600 books, and I had perused nearly every single one.

More than just reading books, I started speaking to other infertility sufferers, medical professionals, infertility researchers, herbalists, homeopaths, and naturopaths about clinical trials and new fertility treatments. I felt absolutely determined to find an answer to my infertility. I was going to have that baby!

Infertility Treatments Didn't WorkAlong with all of the research, I tried a host of infertility treatments, none of which made any difference. I gradually became convinced that if my husband and I were to look after ourselves better and engage in behaviors and activities that were conducive to health and fertility, we might be able to conceive. We therefore started taking over a dozen vitamin and mineral supplements every day. We also began to exercise and eat only organic foods. But nothing worked. The different treatments either had no effect whatsoever or made me feel worse. I realized after all those years of trial, error and experimentation that there was no "magic pill" to fix my fertility problem.

But then . . .

14 Painful Years Later, I Discovered the Missing PieceOne evening, I discovered a very important piece of information while talking with a Chinese medicine expert. The piece of information stood out as the missing piece in my puzzle. I took that piece of information and, together with the other 14 years worth of information that I had collected, compiled a plan to beat infertility and get pregnant. I followed that plan for a while and, to my sheer amazement and joy, after only a few weeks . . .

I Became Pregnant with My First Daughter! After learning this new "holistic" trick, my husband and I conceived our first daughter! I was 43 at the time, and life couldn't get any better. I was so relieved . . . A simple holistic strategy had opened the door to my new and much more colorful life as a mother. My plan had worked! I had finally had my baby.

Two years later, my second pregnancy took less than a month to achieve. As such, sixteen years after beginning our mission, my husband and I had become the proud parents of two beautiful, healthy children.
