. But now many other alternatives of sugar are available and it is still a matter of debate whether these
sugar free sweetener contribute calories. Saccharin, which was accidentally developed in a chemistry lab, was considered to be the only alternative for many years. But now there are many sugar free sweeteners available and one may get confused to use which one.Apart from saccharin there are other chemically synthesized sweeteners like sucralose,acesulfame potassium or ace K and aspartame, which are used in products like Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi.

natural sweetener has zero calories and also many other beneficial qualities for which it is highly recommended for diabetics,dieters and other health conscious sugar abstainers, Stevia is around 300 times sweeter than sugar and so its use in very less amounts gives the sweetening effect of a high quantity of sugar. Tough it is known that replacing sugar in diets reduces patients calorie intake, but it is not clear if taking sugar free sweeteners actually helps in losing weight. Even though the use of these sweeteners is increasing the world over, there is no consensus about the specific effects these additives have on BMI, overall calorie intake or appetite.
There have been many studies of sugar free sweeteners and their effect in weight, appetite, obesity and metabolism and the results of these studies vary considerably. Some studies show a beneficial effect on
weight loss , and some studies show no impact. Some studies also show that these sweeteners actually cause weight gain. Studies that show that these sweeteners that have an effect of weight loss are basically short term trails conducted for a few hours to a couple of days. Long term effects of sugar free or
herbal sweetener as regards weight management are still being studied. Some studies suggest that these sweeteners may interfere with the bodys natural ability to regulate food intake which may result in over eating. A diet coke with a fast food combo meal is an example. It could also happen that being on a weight loss sweetener may make one to think that he can eat more. Sugar free sweeteners have no effect on metabolism and appetite regulation and knowledge as a long term weight loss tool is limited. Further research will give the perfect diet for weight loss.
