If the hair is straightened using a straightening iron and blow dryer, it will curl back up once the hair gets wet. Humidity and fog may keep your hair from remaining straight. Once you have straightened your curly hair, there are a few things you can do to keep it straight.
1. Keep your hair long, as shorter hairstyles tend to curl up more quickly. The extra heaviness of longer hair can maintain it straighter and longer.
2. Make sure to use straightening shampoo and conditioner, as they contain extra ingredients which coat the hair, helping to keep it straight. There are special shampoos and conditioners that are designed to help straighten hair.
3. Use a high-quality straightening iron. Often cheap irons do not generate sufficient heat to entirely penetrate the hair shaft. In the case of professional-level straightening irons, they release more concentrated heat, allowing for straighter hair. Further, they are intricately made using ceramic materials to put off extreme damage to the hair regardless of the high heat levels.
4. A straightening serum or pomade containing silicone can be applied to your hair. Smear the product all over your hair, including at the roots. It helps protect your hair from humidity and other environmental moisture which have an effect on your straightened hair.
5. Use hairspray on both the underside and top of your hair. It makes your hair a bit stiff but helps to protect its straightness.
6. To keep hair straight apply a home remedy. Blend equal parts of fresh, grated coconut and lime juice and massage the mixture into your hair. Wait for about 20 minutes and rinse the mixture out. Straighten your hair as you normally would. This mixture will coat hair shafts that result in straighter hair.
While your hair is wet, try to be gentle with it. Avoid using a straightening iron regularly, as it damages your hair.
