Former President Bill Clinton Named 2010 PETA Person Of The Year For Vegan Diet

Former President Bill Clinton has been awarded the distinguished honor of being PETA's 2010 person of the year. Everyone knows President Clinton promised is daughter Chelsea before she got married that he was going to lose weight prior to her wedding. Well he lost the weight and people began to wonder how he lost it and he said he lost the weight focusing on a plant based diet which he still commits to. His decision to become a vegan is the reason why PETA has nominated him their person of the year.

During an interview with Wolf Blitzer in September he said, "I live on beans, legumes, vegetables, fruit. I drink a protein supplement every morning. No dairy, " he said. "It changed my whole metabolism and I lost 24 pound, and I got back to basically what I weighed in high school."

Along with his promise to lose the weight he also needed to regain a healthier lifestyle because of his previous bouts with heart issues especially a quadruple bypass surgery he had back in 2004 and two heart stents procedures performed on him earlier this year. Since losing the weight and changing his diet he has been an advocate for the PETA organization and promoting a vegan lifestyle. He wants to get the word out that if he can do it others can too.

PETA acknowledges the benefits of people following a vegan diet. "By choosing a plant-based diet, President Clinton has spared the lives of nearly 200 animals a year and reduced his risk of cancer, strokes, and other diseases. Of course, the reasons for going vegan don't end there. The meat industry also contributes to world hunger, exploits workers, and devastates the environment."
