Five Important Things You Need to Know Before You Plan a Girls Getaway Cruise
Thinking of a girls getaway cruise this year? Cruising is perfect for group travel and a very popular vacation choice. It is believed that once you go on a cruise, it will become your preferred form of travel. Although it is similar to a regular land vacation there are some differences and things that you need to know before you begin your planning.
Travel Documents
First thing and most important is make sure you have a valid U.S. Passport. There are some places that you can sail to that do only require proof of citizenship, such as a valid birth certificate. However, because the rules change all of the time, it is best to have your passport as you can't go wrong with doing so. If you do not have one, allow ample time to apply for it, to avoid increased fees for rush processing. If it is up for renewal, you also want to get a head start on the renewal process.
Is it All Inclusive?
Well, almost. Included in the prices of the cruise is your room, of course, and food and beverages, but not all beverages. For the most part, the cruise line will give you complimentary tea, coffee, juice and soft drinks like fruit punch, lemonade and orange juice. There is almost always an extra charge for soda, wine, beer and liquor. They do however, offer packages that you can purchase either ahead of time, or the first day or two after boarding.
Timing is Everything
Knowing when to sail not only affects your overall experience on the ship but it can affect your bank account as well. Here's what I mean. Let's start with how it can affect your overall experience. Hurricane season, in the Caribbean islands is typically from June through November, with its peak being in August and September. If you travel during those times, the sea waters are often extremely rough and the risk of getting seasick is much greater and trust me, it is no fun being seasick. Now, you can gamble and book during that time because the prices are often lower. I have done it two years in a row and have yet to be caught in a hurricane. Luck has surely been on my side but my trip insurance would have taken care of any time I lost as a result.
Now, for your bank account being affected, depending on where you plan to take a cruise to the costs can fluctuate. For example, sailing to the Caribbean is most expensive when it is warm in the states. Hurricane season, ironically offers the best deals as well as the winter months and early spring. Another way to get savings is to book last minute cruises. The cruise lines want to sell all rooms before sailing and would rather have something rather than nothing. So often times, the closer it gets to the sailing date, the lower the rates will drop. I learned that trick from my dad, who is consistently on cruises for little to no money.
Will I Get Seasick?
Getting seasick varies from person to person. Getting motion sickness from car or plane rides does not serve as an indicator for what may transpire on a ship. Let me start by saying that cruise ships are gigantic. They are very different from the local sail boat or yacht. They are equipped with equipment that prevent passengers from knowing that ship is even moving. But there are passengers that do get seasick despite the fancy equipment. There are remedies that passenger scan implement even before the onset of seasickness. When the onset occurs without warning, there are several remedies that are available including a patch that can be worn behind the ear. It contains a timed release motion sickness drug and is available for onboard purchase in many cases. There are also wristbands that you can purchase before boarding that are designed to combat seasickness.
This is some very important preliminary information to get you started with planning the girls getaway cruise. You ladies will love a cruise and is a type of vacation that everyone should experience at least once in a lifetime.
