. People who have a consistent intake of fish oil, overall, weigh less and experience more successful weight loss than those who don't take fish oil as part their normal diet. While it's true that people who are looking to lose weight must cut out some of the fats in their diet, other fats are essential to weight loss. This is where fish oil comes in.
Fish oil contains polyunsaturated fats, which are Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's) vital to not only our health, but also to help cut down on being overweight and obesity problems. In addition, EFA's are ultimately responsible for contributing to the regulation of digestion, insulin production, and fat storage. Since this is the case, there is a definite connection between fish oil and weight loss.
So how does fish oil aid the weight loss process?
What happens when a person combines fish oil and weight loss programs are that the fatty acids found in the fish oil actually activate the enzymes in the body that assist with fat burning. The reason for this is that fish oil intake has been shown to lower insulin levels. Insulin increases the storage of fat so obviously having lower levels of insulin lowers the fat storage. The effect of fish oil may also be due to its impact on appetite control as well. This is certainly a good explanation since a more controlled appetite will speed up weight loss.
So is fish oil the magic weight loss answer we've all been looking for?
The answer to that, as you might have already guessed, is no. There's no magic secret when it comes to successful weight loss. Fish oil can and will aid in the process by doing the things already mentioned, but it alone will not cause you lose weight. As a matter of fact, studies have shown that taking fish oil without exercising and having a good, healthy diet in place, almost no weight loss will occur. So although there is a definite connection between fish oil and weight loss, that connection does come with some strings attached.
Besides helping with weight loss, fish oil is also a great source of nutrients for a person's body. It helps to reduce cholesterol levels and risk of heart disease, plus with it being a member of the unsaturated fats family, it helps to thin blood, reducing the risk of blood clots and strokes. If you are a person who is looking to combine fish oil and weight loss ventures, keep in mind that there are other things that have to be done, like exercising and healthy eating. But also be mindful of the fact that you are doing a great service to your body. The positive effects of fish oil are endless.
