Find Motivation for Your Diet
The right diet motivation can be a make or break for any diet. All too often people will attempt to lose weight without purging themselves of negative thoughts. If you have tried dieting before with little success, this may be your problem. It is important to stay positive when trying to lose weight.
The whole think yourself thin ideal has some merit. At least don't think yourself fat. As a person who was overweight myself, I know that once I found the proper diet motivation things got better. Once I had convinced myself that I was going to lose weight and get in shape there was a positive change in me.
Do not set goals that are unattainable. In weight loss slow and steady is the way to go. Change will not come overnight. Give yourself time to change both your weight and outlook. It's important to make positive steps everyday.
Record your progress in a journal of some sort.A diet blog can be a great way to journal your weight loss. Going back over your journal is another trick to help you stay motivated to diet.
These 2 steps will help setup a proper foundation to help you keep your diet motivation. Use these tips to make the most out of whatever diet you decide to follow.
Step one, Define realistic goals:
When setting your goals you will first want to find out the ideal weight for your height and body frame. A little math will give you the number of pounds you need to lose. Current weight minus ideal weight equals the amount of weight you should plan on losing.
Next figure out how long it will take to lose that weight. As you set your goal date keep in mind most authorities consider 1.5 to 2.5 pounds per week to be ideal healthy weight loss. Take this into account and set weekly and or monthly goals for yourself in addition to your long term goal.
Please take note; your goals must be realistic. If your goals are not reachable you are setting yourself up for failure. This is a surefire way to deflate that diet motivation completely. What I call the "dieters doubts" can easily creep in when you miss your goals. You know when those feelings start to creep back in. The ones that say "I'm always going to be fat." Then the trip to the bakery or fast food joint comes.
On the other hand realizing attainable goals can help to boost your confidence in a major way. These small victories will help to keep you motivated to lose weight.
Step 2, What is your motivation:
What is the main reason for you wanting to lose weight? Only you know the answer to this question. It could be any one of many reasons you decided to drop the extra weight. So what's yours?
Have you had it with the taunts? I know did. Would you like to extend your life? Maybe your diet motivation is that you want to live longer for your kids or long enough to have kids and enjoy them. Are there certain things you just can't do while overweight? Maybe your sick of having to buy two plane tickets.
That was just some of my diet motivations to get your wheels turning. Now it's up to you, find out what it is that will keep you driven to lose weight. It is important to record even the smallest of reasons. Go back to them when you need a little inspiration or diet motivation.
