Eating Small Balanced Meals Often Is The Ticket To Easy Weight Loss
Can you remember when we used to eat three meals a day and snacking between meals
was not looked upon favorably as it might have spoiled one's appetite? Going back in time our ancestors used to eat three 'square' meals a day. They did work hard manually, often farming and working the land and could easily put away thousands of calories and burn it off in a single days work. Big hearty nourishing meals fueled this physical labor.
But how things have changed even in the last 30-40 years, we do not sit down and eat three big meals each day. It would highly unlikely we could burn off the large amount of calories we can take in at one sitting. Now days most of us work seated maybe controlling a computer mouse or pushing a pen. With as much as 70 percent of the world working seated at low activity jobs this means that most of us do not need big meals.
So, today in our modern largely sedentary world with up to 80 percent of our day spent sitting small meals every 2-3 hours are a better way to manage our low levels of activity. This is the most efficient way of keeping our blood sugar levels stable so we do not trigger fat storing hormones and can manage our weight better.
By going for long periods without food we can become so hungry that our hunger hormones are activated which can cause us to suffer intense food cravings and become more likely to overeat with much of the excess being stored as body fat. This spoils our appearance, sucks our energy levels and leaves us vulnerable to diseases like heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
Many people think that by missing meals it will help them lose weight but it has the opposite affect. Long periods without food cause the metabolism (the body's engine) to slow down as the body senses a food shortage and tries to conserve energy. This puts the brakes on fat loss and triggers fat storage.
You will find that when you eat small meals throughout the day and your blood sugar levels become more stable you have less food cravings that can thwart even the most dedicated dieter. For best results each of your small meals should contain a source of protein which fills you up and leaves you feeling satisfied for hours which makes eating less over the whole day much easier.
It does not really make sense but you need to actually eat more often to end up eating less. When you eliminate those awful cravings you have much more control and just by eating a hundred or two less than what you require you will effortlessly lose excess fat without any suffering whatsoever.
The trick to eating this way is to plan and prepare ahead so you always have a meal or two with you no matter where you go during the day. A small cooler is an easy way to carry them and you will never be tempted to make the wrong choices when you are prepared.
Before long you will find that your body loves this way of eating and you will look forward to your small meals as they will energize and nourish you without your waistline expanding.
