Is chivalry dead? And most importantly, should men of honor care a damn if ever it exists? Like all the elite human qualities, chivalry too is not cultivated by MEN to impress, but to simply express one of their best traits.
As boys mature from teenage to early adulthood as men, they learn to be well-behaved andcourteous towards the opposite gender. The very intent and criterion to impress a woman now changes. A man controls his physical urges and looks out for an alter ego to beat the unexplainablevacuum experienced around the age of 25 amidst bachelorhood. He gets a taste of real romance and baggage of responsibilities which accompany it.
Learning is a tough process and the going really gets tough as the individual turns 28. Most of the break-ups and divorces take place at this phase of a man's life. This phenomenon has a technical name to it too by the astrologers. They called it "the Saturn Return".
It is during this time a man starts taking all the aspects of his life seriously and redefines his notions on them. In the recent times when women are quite independent and on their own in almost all the aspects of life, they deem chivalry from men as a mere stunt to impress or a minor challenge to their independence. Men do get influenced by the response obtained for this particular gesture.
Depending on the experience they have for the first time, most men give up this quality completely as it hurts their ego. Few decide to observe discretion. But a rare breed and a selectively less number of men with a fine mixture of intelligence and wisdom neither give up nor observe discretion while displaying chivalry. They do it because they are convinced that this trait is one of the glorious traits keeping with tradition of fine characters that walked in this planet.
Such men neither get elated by a complement of women nor get offended when a woman remarks critically for being chivalrous.
Chivalry is among those rare and pure qualities of life which are untouched by any selfish need or requirement. There is a scarcity of such spirits in our lives. Like courage, empathy and sacrifice, chivalry too will continue to inspire a learning man to achieve personal glory in his own right in the school of hard experiences called LIFE.
