City of Westminster - London Most Prestigious Wedding Venues
It's hard to define which ones London wedding photographers rate the best but here are three that really stand out and often feature in those popular 'Top 50 in the world' lists.
The first is Kettners in the heart of Soho. Apart from being well known for serving sparkling Champagne cocktails, it was once the regular haunt of Edwarde VII, where according to legend the infamous royal used to entertain his beautiful mistress Lillie Langtry. The tasteful furnishings and decor act as a stylish set for the couple and whether it's a cozy reception for thirty in the 'Cabinet Particulier' or a sumptuous celebration for a hundred in 'The Apartment', Kettners consistently delivers to a very high standard.
Further North in the direction of London Zoo (another great venue) is the bold white Portland Stone Building occupied by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), opposite the Chinese Embassy on Portland Place. This Grade II listed building is one of the best-preserved and most elegant Art Deco interiors available to hire in London. It's the perfect place for a sophisticated romantic Westminster wedding. With so many interesting details it's no surprise that wedding photographers really love working here. From the exterior up-lit in purple at night, through the elegant entrance and grand lobby, then up the double marble staircase and into the timeless Florence Hall. The floor to ceiling windows and roof terrace allow plenty of ambient light and the high ceilings, intricate paneling, etched glass and beautiful chandeliers just add to the classic atmosphere.
The third City of Westminster venue to mention is the Banqueting House in Whitehall across the road from Downing Street. The Banqueting House is a Grade I listed building and was originally part of the Whitehall Palace built in 1622. It was designed by the architect Inigo Jones and boasts a majestic ceiling painted by Ruben's as well as being the historic site of King Charles I's public execution. Wedding venues don't come much more impressive than this! The magnificent main hall with Rubens ceiling and throne at one end can hold up to five hundred. It's an enormous room with a gallery that has overlooked many banquets and royal receptions over the last five hundred years. In addition there is also a more intimate space below ground level called The Undercroft. This was once the drinking den of King James I and looks quite spectacular when candle lit. Here you can hold a wedding ceremony or a reception for up to three hundred and fifty guests.
