Buying Official Or Off The Lot?
The current state of the economy has everyone feeling the pinch
, and naturally, this means that we need to save money wherever we can, and this extends to the money we spend on our cars. For many of us, transport is a necessity, but a car is a large outlay and so it is essential that we get the best deal possible, both in the initial purchase phase and afterwards as well. But should you visit generic second hand car dealers or an official Peugeot, Ford or Vauxhall Dealership?
Although the prices from general second hand car dealers tend to be lower or at least similar to official Toyota, Lexus or Vauxhall dealership, in many cases, it is a case of once the car is off the lot, it is off the dealer's hands. Although, certainly, there are a great many reputable second hand car salesmen and women, there are a few individuals and groups in a few areas around the country who ruin the reputations of all the others in the area by trading in poor quality vehicles and utilising shoddy business practices and of course this perception should not be applied to all second hand car dealers.
However, it can often be difficult to tell the difference between a reputable dealer and a con man, especially if you aren't particularly knowledgeable about cars. A wash, a clean inside and some smooth words from a salesperson and many people could well be tricked into buying what's known in the trade as a 'lemon', with very little comeback when it inevitably goes wrong.
Purchasing from an official Daewoo, BMW or Vauxhall dealership eliminates this worry - they have been licensed by the manufacturer of the car so their business practises must be above board, and they also provide you the buyer with access to officially licensed parts and mechanics that have been trained specifically for these vehicles, ensuring that your yearly service or repairs in the event of damages will be taken care of by someone who is completely familiar with your car.
Often, there isn't much difference in the price range between generic second hand car dealers and an officially licensed Mitsubishi, Suzuki or Vauxhall dealership, and with the assurances of quality and business practices, it makes sense to buy official rather than taking the risk on a slightly cheaper option. Combining this with the official parts and licensed mechanics available from official Daewoo, Ford or Vauxhall dealers and it makes more sense to buy official for most people.
