Here in the UK and probably in cities around the world travellers who use public transport to travel to or from their work are invariably spending travelling time either looking out of the windows or reading their own books, magazines or newspapers.
In the UK especially if you commute by train there are currently two free newspapers you can pick up or are offered when you enter a railway station in London or railway stations around the country.
If you have to travel during the rush hour periods you are lucky to get a seat on a train which means having to stand throughout your journey, or at least some of the time. If you are standing it is quite difficult to read a newspaper, book or magazine.
Generally you need one hand to hold your bag, briefcase, holdall, etc. This leaves you with only the other hand to read your newspaper, magazine or book and turn pages, which is difficult, especially in confined spaces.

E-book readers not only allow you to download books but also Newspapers, magazines, blogs, PDF documents, emails, etc. If you don't want to 'read' then you can listen to your book or article read to you by a male or female voice, a great feature for those with vision problems. You can change the size and spacing of the font you are reading to suit. E-book readers are light, easy to hold in one hand and turn pages with the same hand.
E-book readers are the perfect answer for the regular public transport traveller, holiday and business flier. Even with an attractive leather protective case the e-book readers can be easily carried on your person or in your baggage.
Some reviewers suggest that e-books are no cheaper than the traditional paper book. Paper books do not attract VAT but e-books do which adds another 17.5% (20% in 2011 in the UK). But reviewing book prices online you will find prices are very reasonable with many offers. Also newspapers and magazines if subscribed to monthly are up to half price compared to buying the paper version daily.
