Beat Those Cravings For Easy Weight Loss
Knowing the reason and what types of cravings you have can help you combat them easily
. There are many different types of craving and even more reasons or of course it can be a combination of a few. Sometimes we have food cravings that we arent even aware of, such as when our bodies are tired or needing oxygen or water, we tend to reach for the food and snacks instead of giving our bodies what they really require. In these cases it is a good idea to ask yourself as you reach for that yummy snack am I actually hungry or am I tired, thirsty or could I do with a breath of fresh air?
Now I know that at first this can sound a bit strange I thought so myself, however when you make yourself aware of this state if mind you notice times when instead of sitting down resting or having a glass of water or doing some deep breathing exercises you would have reached for the biscuits, chocolates or whatever.
Of course these are reasonably easy food cravings to deal with when you recognise that they are there and happening, but what about the other kinds?
Well let me run through a couple more reasons for the food cravings and see it you recognise any in your own habits.
Emotional when you feel down, sad, lonely, angry, depressed, bored, happy, excited, stressed, nervous and when you are with others.
Habit - When we eat and we dont register it. When we are watching TV, a film, on a journey, chatting on the phone or face to face or when were out at a social gathering.
There is also some who think that when you crave a certain type of food you may be allergic to it. Rather ironic that the food you crave the most could be something that you really shouldnt eat.
Think about the food you crave and that you feel you could never do without. That could be the one you are allergic to. Try cutting down on this food type, maybe keep a journal and chart your progress, does any part of you health and well being improve during the time you either dramatically cut down? Or cut out this food type completely?
You may need to do this after a period of a month or so, take your time to reduce the amount of this type of food in your diet and then focus on any changes that take place. It could be changes in your energy levels, your monthly mensal cycle, headaches, moods, texture of your skin or/and hair, relief from cold type symptoms and catarrh, or your general sensitivity to things. It could be any of these things or it maybe something else not covered here.
Emotional cravings can be eliminated when you are aware of them. We all feel down and depressed from time to time but eating foods although you may feel better in the short term will only make you feel worst in the long term. So perhaps try something a bit different, take a leisurely walk, or if you are more active, a bike ride, swim or a run. It is a well known fact that the same chemicals in the brain are released when eating chocolate as are when taking exercise but one puts on the extra pounds and that good feeling is generally gone in an instant being replaced with an even worst down feeling. Whereas the chemical stays in the brain longer after taking exercise leaving a good high feeling there for longer and helping you to loose weight.
If you find that your emotional cravings start when you are feeling happy, excited or nervous instead of reaching for the food, try having a drink of water and sipping it, putting it down between sips the same as you would if you were picking at food the hand to mouth motion is still there but the calories arent. This can also work with the habit eating if you cant get to grips with the idea of sipping water try nibbling fresh carrot sticks or cucumber sticks, these are low in calories but high in goodness.
However the main cure for these kinds of cravings is the actual realisation that they are there, they do happen and you know when they happen. It is up to you how you deal with them and whether you choose to act on them or not.
