This will usually be her mother, mother-in-law, sisters, aunts, or best friends. Sometimes the guest list will be restricted to just the family, but in some cases, the family will be allowed to bring guest. Another consideration for the guest list is if this will be a female only shower, or a co-ed shower, otherwise known as "Jack and Jills". Who's hosting the baby shower: It's usually considered in bad form, and bad baby shower invitation etiquette, for the expectant parents to host their own baby showers. While they are grateful to receive gifts from their guests, it might be seen as tacky for them to be direct about it by hosting their own party to celebrate themselves, at least in this instance. The person who usually hosts the baby shower again usually is, or are the females that are closest to the expectant mother.
The baby shower venue: Actually, the venue should be decided even before the guest list is decided, because the venue size determines the guest list size. It's traditional for the hostess of the baby shower to have the event at her house, but sometimes the event might be outdoors if the weather permits. Parks and the backyard are perfect for an outdoors baby shower. Some people might be extravagant, and rent a hall, or hotel space for a shower. With regards to baby shower invitation etiquette, it's always crucial to let your guest know if the event is going to be indoors, or outdoors.
RSVP: Again, there is a lot of planning to make things special, so the invitation might have RSVPs on them. It's good baby shower invitation etiquette that the guest should respect this, and make reservations if they are in fact going to attend the shower. If they are going to bring guest, they should call the hostess to make sure this is okay. Another reason is to ensure that guest arrive to the shower as close to starting time as possible. There are usually games and events planned at the shower, and the expectant mother will become fatigued because of her condition. The hostess will want to plan a tight schedule in order for the mother to experience all of her guest, and yet not be worn down.
