Are Forum Postings And Blog Commenting Still Valid Ways Of Getting Backlinks?
Some people wonder whether or not the methods of posting comments on blogs and on forums will still bring you any useful backlinks or traffic
? The answer is yes, but only if used judiciously and with a large dose of common sense and decorum. These two methods have been around a long time, and have been ripe grounds for spammers and black hat scoundrels. This has led to rather Draconian measures being implemented to combat this type if nefarious activity, and you need to know not only how not to be classified as such, but how to avoid it altogether, and make the best use of your time and backlink building efforts.
The commenting world is now split into two distinct spheres: the follow world and the no-follow world. Many prominent blogs, weary of the constant battle to keep their blog comments free from debilitating spam and a fertile ground for discussion, have made all their links no-follow. Others, mindful that this is a meaningful tool for bloggers, allow their links to be followed, but moderate their comments very closely, or automated plugins to help cull out the useless comments.
It's pretty much up to you to find blogs and forums in your markets and interests that meet your needs (allow your links to be followed). There is also software like CommentHut that helps you locate blogs that meet your criteria. Once you find some, you have to put your newly-crafted strategy into action.
Make sure you come across as a real person. This means using your real name. Many bloggers (and spammers!) got into the habit of using their primary keywords as their name when commenting and posting. Now, unless your real name is "Forex Market Strategies", and I doubt it is, you will want to begin using your real name. This has several benefits. First, you're far less likely to have your comment squashed. Second, you're also far more likely to begin to develop some sort of online persona people can relate to and engage. This is a good thing.
Keep a list handy of popular blogs you'd like to comment on, and set up alerts for when there are new posts. The reason for this is that you want your comments to be as early in the commenting process as possible, so they don't get buried deep on page twelve. There is also a good software solution to help with this, known as CommentSniper.
A vital piece of your blog commenting and forum posting strategies will always need to be the admonition to offer good value. Make sure you're contributing to the conversation, and not merely chiming in with "I agree!" to get your link. This will soon get you branded at best as someone with nothing valuable to contribute, and at worst, get your comments deleted.
Make sure you strive to become a valuable member of the conversation!
