If this is you then you need to devise a plan for yourself to bring this number down. There are a number of ways to lose weight and get your BMI under control.

The first thing you need to do is to formulate an exercise program for yourself. A certain amount of fat is necessary because your body uses it for energy. But when you take in more food than you can burn off through an exercise regimen, or if you maintain a sedentary lifestyle, your body will become more and more obese over time. The best way to reverse this disease is to get more active so your body is forced to burn more fat. Being active does two things. First it burns calories which will help you lose weight faster. The other more important thing it does is release endorphins to your brain and curbs your appetite so you will tend to eat less if you're exercising regularly.

The other major thing you need to involve yourself in is paying closer attention to your diet regimen. You can find all kinds of diet plans on the internet for free, but that's just for starters. There are a lot of diet options open to you so you don't have to be too choosy here. A lot of dieting is just common sense, but these days common sense isn't all too common. In fact buying your food and cooking it at home is cheaper than going out anyway. Eat more vegetables for starters. Then start walking each day. Also try to shift your diet strategy to eating more foods that are higher in protein and lower in carbohydrates. Eat more greens, eat less and move more is the simplest and strongest advice I could give you when it comes to dieting.
