"You Again" is a girl-powered comedy with an emphasis on revenge
Spotty high school nerd Marni ,skilfully played by Kristen Bell, suffers the usual teenage torments from the "in crowd" girls, led by cheerleader from hell Joanna (Odette Yustman from Cloverfield).
12 years on, and Marni has successfully escaped her past to become a high-powered PR executive. The morally dubious Joanna, on the other hand, has become engaged to Marni's brother. A recipe for disaster if ever there was one.
Marni cannot accept the impending entry of Joanna into the family and instead tries every trick in the book to bring these nuptials to a halt - with humorous if somewhat predictable results.
When her mother Gail (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) realises that Joanna's Aunt Ramona (Sigourney Weaver) is actually her aged teenage rival,these kick off in a major way.
This family-friendlymovie ,directed by Andy Fickman (Race To Witch Mountain, The Game Plan), is fun without every challenging the viewer on any level.
Most of the movie is based on either awkward moments ie pre-wedding dinners, or the creation of plans to create childich revenge acts.
This film,though, is blessed by a very fine cast indeed - Weaver and Curtis clearly relish their roles as life-long rivals, Yustman is a terrific monster, and there are some funny cameos along the way.
You Again cheerfully weaves it's way down a quite predictable route until the gooey yet slapstick final act and the audience will probably leave the theatre thinking they have seen a funny, well made film featuring well-known faces, but nothing out of the ordinary.
