I've been thinking how best to describe yoga and the benefits it can bring

. And to be honest, its not easy because yoga actually benefits us in so many ways. We all know that yoga has a fitness element to it and involves a number of poses that are held to improve tone and flexibility. We also know that yoga brings you a certain calmness with it and can be used for meditation and even spiritual purposes.

But there is great deal more to yoga than first impressions suggest, especially when it is practised properly and with the correct form and mindset. The fact that Yoga has been around and been practised and developed for many years, almost 5000 years in fact, shows that its has great sustainability. The main philosophy of yoga is to integrate mind, body and spirit to achieve a state of oneness.

You can use parts of yoga to help with many areas of your life. Its many poses not only help to tone muscles and burn calories but are also very good for correcting or improving posture. They are widely used in rehabilitation and physiotherapy sessions to help recover from injury. The insides of your body can also benefit from the workout yoga gives, your internal organs can become refreshed and energised by virtue of the increased oxygen supplied by the deep breathing methods taught. In addition yoga is now used widely for meditation and stress release purposes due to the calmness achieved through the relaxed state and breathing exercises.

Yoga also helps to train the mind to have a whole new healthy attitude to life. Your whole approach to your health can change as you begin to benefit more and more from yoga. Yoga almost becomes a way of life bringing you a healthy mindset and attitudes.

The gentle and calming approach that yoga brings means we become more encouraged to exercise as we actually enjoy it. We therefore achieve a healthy discipline without that feeling of dread that we can get when we are about to engage in other types of more vigorous exercise.

Yoga really has got it all, it attempts to bring together all the healthy aspects of living to unite body and mind. It can be seen as a journey of personal exploration giving you better control of your emotions and a more healthy attitude to life and others.
