Latest research from the world of motoring has indicated that female drivers are increasing their likelihood of having to use their UK breakdown cover, as they are much less likely to undertake routine maintenance tasks.
The latest study which has come from Autoquake.com has revealed that 12% of women have admitted to not checking their car's oil level, and 14% fail to check their tyre pressures regularly: this is compared to 8% and 7% of men. Finally, the studies also revealed that 20% of women never check their tyre tread depth.
As well as revealing worrying figures for all of those concerned with their road safety, the survey also showed that many women would simply prefer to get any maintenance work done by someone else rather than attempting it themselves.
15% of women noted that they would rather pay someone to check the coolant levels compared to 5% of men stating the same thing. This is surprising in the modern environment, as the price of UK breakdown cover can be reduced significantly for any motorists willing to perform their own essential maintenance.
This is obviously out of sync with the 9% of female motorists who still pay to have their washer fluid level checked, compared with the tiny 3% of men who do the same thing.
Speaking on behalf of Autoquake, the Chief Executive Dermot Halpin stated that Failing to top up the car's oil level could lead to engine failure and a huge repair bill, while not checking your tyres' tread depth could mean your car is unsafe - and illegal.'
