Why Walking Is Such A Great Way To Lose Weight
Losing weight is a target for many people these days
. Sadly for many of us, it tends to be associated with starvation on the latest diet trend or getting hot and sweaty at the gym. Laps of the track and pounding the pavement in the rain are other, equally unappealing images that many will associate with weight loss and exercise in general.
However, there is an alternative method of losing weight, and gaining a whole host of other health benefits into the bargain, which is suitable, and possibly more attractive, to most people. Walking is a low injury risk, low impact form of exercise which is perfect for a wide range of people - at various levels of health and fitness and across a brad age range. It can be carried out by people who are recovering from illness or injury and is also a very effective way of shedding weight after childbirth.
The great thing about walking is that it is a perfectly natural activity. There's no need for any specialist equipment, expertise or training. Almost anyone can do it - wherever and whenever they like. It can be slotted in to your daily routine whenever it suits you best. You don't need to fit in a special trip to the gym - which is good as it will also save you a small fortune in monthly membership fees.
The key thing to obtaining health benefits and achieving weight loss by walking is consistency. Regular, relatively low level exercise, carried out on a frequent basis is much better than sporadic bursts of high intensity physical activity and much less likely to produce strains, sprains and other injuries as well. Walking for just half an hour each day can very quickly generate results which are both visible and tangible - as long as it's done on a regular basis.
If you can slowly build up to 10,000 steps on a daily basis, then you will be pleased with both the results and how quickly you can obtain them. For most people, 10,000 steps will be around about five miles and, although that may sound like a long way, it's a lot easier to achieve than you may think.
One of the great things about walking is the fact that you dont need any special equipment. However, whilst its not strictly necessary, you might find that getting hold of a pedometer is a good idea. You can find these starting at less than $10 these days. These will help you to track and record your progress and you can check on your performance in terms of number of steps taken, calories burned or distance covered. It might be all you need to keep you motivated and ensure that your walking workout becomes a regular part of your daily routine.
