Why Some Quick Weight Loss Diets Do Not Work

There are so many diets on the market, all promising to help you achieve the body you have always wanted

. The problem, though, is that many quick weight loss diets are quick because they are not lasting.

The truth is most people could lose ten pounds in a week if they ate only cabbage (have you tried the cabbage diet? Or the grapefruit diet? Or the soup diet?).

The reason so many of these diets fail is that they do not foster a lasting change in your lifestyle, which is what you really need to lose weight and keep it off.

If you struggle to lose weight, quick weight loss diets are very tempting. They appeal to us because we are so frustrated with our efforts so far -and our failures- that we are willing to try anything, and there is always the hope that finally we found the solution we've been searching for.

For other people, it is a quick fix and instant gratification. Sometimes, we are not willing to wait for lasting change, so we'll take the temporary satisfaction of seeing results, no matter how fleeting they are.

If you are still tempted to try a fad diet, consider the reasons why they don't work:

1.They're boring!

Often, quick weight loss diets don't provide our bodies and appetites with a variety of foods. We end up eating the same foods, day after day.

It quickly becomes tedious to prepare food and eat it. While you may think this will help you eat less, it actually leads to...

2.Cheating!

You've been eating the same diet food for days. Why not treat yourself with a scoop of ice cream? That scoop turns into a pint before you know it!

Quick weight loss diets are risky because they can actually lead you to eat more when you fall of the diet wagon.

3. They can be hard to stick with.

Considering the boredom and risk for overindulging, many quick weight loss diets are very hard to stick with.

4.You could gain more weight.

When you go off your diet, you could end up gaining back any weight you've lost and even more. This may be because you overcompensate for what you missed out on while on the diet.

Nothing is more frustrating that being back at square one.

The alternative to quick weight loss diets? The answer is healthy eating habits and regular exercise.

There is no getting around it - these are the only things that work to help you lose weight and keep it off.

To see real and lasting changes in your body, incorporate some of the following into your life:

*Eat more vegetables. They are packed with nutrition.

*Add more fiber to your diet. Not only does it help improve overall health, it helps your body burn more fat.

*Eat smaller meals more frequently.

*Make breakfast your big meal and dinner your small meal.

*Move more. Even simple things like taking the stairs, doing some sit-ups and pushups during commercials, or playing catch with your child can have a big impact on your fitness level.

*Exercise most days. If you can't fit in a long session, do several short ones.

*Eat more whole grains.

*Stop drinking your calories. Cut out sugary drinks like soda and make your calorie choices count.

There are hundreds of other ways to make changes. If you make a commitment to integrate these little steps into your lifestyle, you will see big changes in your body and your health.

The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to adopt a healthier lifestyle. It will become part of your everyday life, not a "diet," which means it will be much easier to stick with.

The majority of quick weight loss diets are, at best, temporary fixes that promise far more than they deliver.
