Why Are You Still Overweight?
Many people try as they might just cannot lose the extra pounds
. Some people are genetically pre-disposed to be larger than others; some people do have thyroid problems or other medical conditions that do mean it is near impossible to lose weight without some medical intervention. But for the vast majority of us trying to lose weight, it is not so much that we can't lose weight, more that we just don't try or that we are wrongly misinformed about how to lose weight.
Apart from travelling to work, many of us are sitting in an office all day long, we may not go out at lunch time, and we may not even have a break at all so we are very inactive. Many of us sit at our desks and snack on the wrong foods, work colleagues may bring in biscuits, chocolate, cakes and when you are hard at work you get hungry and of course, when it is there in front of you it is all too tempting and the last thing you are bothered about is how many grams of fat you are consuming. When we get home from work often we are too tired to even contemplate cooking a healthy dinner so we resort to packet and/or convenience meals. There is also the excuse that it is too expensive to eat healthily which is not true at all. You do not have to buy expensive organic produce to eat well and it does not even require a major diet overhaul, even replacing a few biscuits with a banana or an apple is a start.
Many people do not exercise sufficiently and have not even set foot in a gym and of course this coupled with a bad diet it is no wonder that you are not losing weight. Just wanting to lose weight is not enough to make it happen. Being overweight is not only bad from an aesthetic point of view but also from a general health and well being point of view, you are far more likely to suffer serious illnesses and have a poorer quality of life than a slimmer person. Your life expectancy is also significantly reduced if you are especially overweight.
If you are trying to lose weight, what changes are you making to your diet and lifestyle? Are you reducing your calorie intake? Are you limiting or cutting out the junk food? Are you exercising at least twice a week? Fact is; crash diets do not work, losing weight that quickly just results in it piling back on with a vengeance so you may end up weighing more than you did before you lost the weight. Nor does starving yourself as your body will hold onto the remaining fat which means you won't actually lose any weight at all. What does work is a healthy well balanced diet, lesser portions a day and moderate exercise.
