Why A Mobile Crane Is The Right Man For The Job

There are places static cranes simply cant go- narrow places

, tight places, places with limited access or apparently impossible sitings. A company has to build a static crane in situ, which means there has to be room to lay it all out before it gets put together. If the immediate site doesnt have room for one, the company has to build it somewhere else and extend its boom arm over buildings to get it to lift from the site in question. An operation fraught with difficulty, time consuming expense, and not a little unnecessary dangerous. A mobile crane, on the other hand, can be sited pretty much anywhere removing the need for potentially hazardous lifting over the tops of other buildings.

Mobile cranes are capable of lifting the same weights as static tower cranes; they are built in such a way that their lifting gear is practically the same; but they come on wheels and they dont need assembling. Mobile cranes can be driven straight to the site where lifting is required, jacked up, unfolded and put immediately to work. On average, it takes less than an hour to position and set up a mobile crane: it can take days just to assemble a tower crane, which then has to be checked.

The checking process alone is a huge reason to consider using a mobile crane rather than a static or tower crane. Once a tower crane has been built, it has to be checked exhaustively to make sure everything about the construction has been done correctly and the thing is safe to use. A mobile crane is only built once at the factory that makes mobile cranes which means it simply needs regular maintenance checks to ensure it is still working properly like an MOT on a car.

And because mobile cranes tend to be hired, and arrive already assembled, those checks can be carried out on the time of the hire company rather than the company doing the hiring. A mobile crane arrives checked up and ready to go, whereas a tower crane has to be built and checked on site before it is ready to go.

Modern mobile cranes are so flexible that even the big ones can get into stupendously small spaces. The mobile crane is usually built on a multi axle plan, which allows even a long vehicle to make uncommonly tight turns and that means that mobile cranes can get down into streets and alleys no tower crane could ever hope to occupy. The best multi axle mobile cranes can make a 90 degree turn into a narrow street with no problem at all.

Such short turning circles give mobile cranes an advantage over other types of crane not overlooked by county councils. Using a tower crane in a city can involve hefty and complicated road closure for several streets around a lifting site. Using a mobile crane means one street alone needs to be shut the street where the work is being done.
