When your business wants the best in parcel delivery, find a courier service that suits to a tee

Share: When a business is asked to make a delivery to a UK address
, nowhere is out of bounds these days, thanks to the comprehensive coverage offered by leading courier companies. That's a far cry from how things were relatively few years ago. Poor roads and sparse air connections between major cities meant large parts of England, Scotland and Wales could not be guaranteed a reliable and consistent level of service.
Even relatively important destinations, such as St Andrew's, the host of the 2010 Open golf championship, were considered too far-flung for delivery companies to pledge to offer a next-day service. Several changes have taken place since to ensure that the service such destinations receive meets 21st century expectations.
Firstly, the UK's infrastructure has greatly improved. While still being some way behind much of mainland Europe, motorways and trunk roads are much more extensive than a generation ago. Second, there have been big changes in the transport options available. Substantial road-building programmes went hand-in-hand with the introduction of much better designed vehicles, which made access to massive areas of the UK mainland which once only the most dedicated traveller would attempt to reach, much easier.
Thirdly, and probably most importantly, the technology fitted to these vehicles has increased beyond recognition. Just a few years ago, the idea of a truck or van being accurately guided to a remote location using satellite technology was just a pipe dream. Now, however, sat-nav equipment is so commonplace that it's almost taken for granted.
So delivery companies have been able to massively widen their horizons, resulting in the likes of Parcelforce and DHL being able to confidently send trucks out to remote locations, and have the confidence that they can make it safely back home again. And the contents of these trucks can even be closely followed, thanks to the advent of parcel tracking technology, which turns a simple reference number into a means of following an important delivery right to its recipient's door.
Just as in golf, where the golfer today has a far more sophisticated array of equipment (the clubs and the balls) than ever before, a similar, fundamental transformation has taken place in the resources available to enable national and international freight companies to perform much more effectively. But the difference here, is that everyone's a winner.
