When Wanting Fast Weight Loss-Are all Calories the Same?

When Wanting Fast Weight Loss-Are all Calories the Same

?

I'm sure you've heard this old expression. It's another way of saying are all calories the same? The short answer is yes any calorie will do when it comes to weight loss; it's how many that matter.

If you need further proof of this read my article "Only Twinkies". Dr. Haub ate all junk food, mostly Twinkies and lost 27 pounds. The trick was he restricted his intake to 1800 calories a day. I looked it up and there is about 150 calories in a Twinkie so that is twelve per day. I don't know about you but that does not sound very filling.

There is a lot of confusing things about calories on the internet, so if you are confused by my statements, I understand.

If you have a medical condition then all calories are not the same. I believe this is where some of the confusion comes in when discussing calories. Let's take a diabetic as an example.

The diabetic patient is not supposed to eat processed sugars. This means soda, sweets and candy are excluded from their diet, we hope. Carbohydrates are limited in the standard ADA (American Diabetes Association) diet. The reason is a carbohydrate is nothing but a bunch of sugar molecules held together by bonds. Our bodies possess an enzyme that immediately chops the bonds, turning the carb into sugar. Starches are all carbohydrates, so potatoes, pasta, bread, and believe it or not peas and corn are common examples of this food type.

Just as diabetics should avoid sugars and limit starches heart patients must limit their fat intake. Fats are pretty much self explanatory except when you deep fry a food. I've see deep fried green beans, cauliflower and ochre; so you take a good food and make it fatty with the deep fryer.

Fats are cholesterol and it you have high cholesterol or have had a heart attack you should restrict your intake of these items. High cholesterol is one of the major causes of atherosclerosis, hardening of the arteries. So in these cases not all calories are equal.

If you are trying to lose weight please don't eat 1800 calories of Twinkies as that really isn't healthy. A balanced diet is needed to maintain proper nutrition and a healthy body. Your body needs proteins and vitamins to maintain your musculature and skeletal structures. Junk food is known as empty calories, they serve no useful purpose other than they may taste good and they will make you fat.

So hopefully you know see why any calorie will do as long as you limit the amount of them; when trying to lose weight. If you struggle with your weight I have a new page called Weight Loss 101. It explains how to figure out how many calories you need to eat to lose weight. There are also suggestions if you just can't seem to do it on your own. So please click the link in this paragraph.
