"Sold by weight not by volume", we read that on packages of cookies
, chips and cereal. Most things we buy are sold or purchased based on the weight of that item. When was the last time you saw a price per apple or banana or grapes. One grape .05 cents, now count up all those little grapes and let me know the price. Doesn't happen that way, grapes along with most produce is sold by weight. We judge people based on nothing more than their weight. "The vertical force exerted by a mass" is how we judge our fellow travelers on this planet. Kind of strange isn't it.
What is the first thing a zoo keeper will tell a class of kindergarteners at the zoo, the elephants name and his weight and even more interesting his weight at birth. It is interesting that in a culture of plenty we revere the starved look and in a culture of sparsity they hunger for the overfed appearance.

Maybe it would hinder that nightly trip to the refrigerator. That vertical force sometimes has more than enough gravitational pull. Weight does, for whatever reason, seem to be the center of many things.
