Weddings Amalfi Coast

This is my favourite wedding destination so much so that I got married here myself

. I did look high and low for the perfect venue as there was a lot I needed to take into consideration however there were also heart felt reasons for marrying here, the main one being that my husband had visited Positano when he was only 17 and had said then that this was the most beautiful place on earth, not knowing that more than 30 years later he would be marrying me in the same place.

The Amalfi Coast is drama, sheer and utter drama. From the moment you land in Naples airport, there is drama, the heat, the chat, the traffic all contributing to your arrival this is your fanfare. If you are brave enough to pick up a car and drive, you will find that your knuckles will start to protrude as you cling to your car wheel as the motorway gets smaller and then bigger, the cars crossing and getting in your way or zooming past at speeds which you never thought possible, but keep calm, it is all part of the fun. The best way to get to the Amalfi Coast in my view is to go Via SantAgnello as it is only when you turn a certain corner that you will see the Amalfi Coast in its full glory and it will be a spiritual experience!

The Amalfi Coast is unique and nature has worked in harmony with man and has allowed itself to be adapted to ensure this co-existence. With the mountains plunging steeply into the sea, deep fjords Furore being an example, coves, cliffs, caverns, bays, natural arches, small pebble beaches, small sandy stretches, all contributing to its appeal. Add to this the houses and towns clinging to every available space, warm pastel colours, bougainvillea, lemon groves, terraces, the calmness of the sea, the distant fishing boats and yachts, and its inhabitants and you will understand what true beauty is all about.

There are a total of 13 towns/villages along this stretch of road where it is possible to tie the knot. Each village has something truly special and somewhat unique to offer and here is just a selection of the options available to couples and which we recommend:

Our journey starts in Positano and we have the open air town hall where weddings can be held on the terrace weather permitting. Positano is one of the very few town halls in Italy where you can marry at midnight by candle-light, you pay over and above, but it is truly magical. Then there is the boutique hotel with its garden in the historical centre. In the main square of Positano is the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta with its great majolica cupola which is visible from all over town. You can have a religious wedding ceremony in this wonderful church or you can choose to celebrate your religious wedding in 2 other churches which are also available here. Or there are some amazing villas where a ceremony is also possible. Bear in mind that these are the most expensive wedding types as they are also the most exclusive.

Our next recommendation is Amalfi. An ancient marine Republic, you can marry in the beautiful Cathedral which is Amalfis centerpiece. The steps leading up to the church are ideal for wedding pictures. If you feel that this church may be a bit over the top for you, we have 2 other lovely churches close by, one is quite unique while the other is tucked away. You can also get married on the terrace of a luxury hotel offering breathtaking views and we have quite a few to recommend or again, a villa wedding can also be looked. We must not forget the dramatic and charming town hall which gives you a sense of purpose. Civil weddings are performed the elegant former Benedectine Monastery dating back to the 12th century.

Then there is Ravello with its breathtaking views, its beautiful patrician villas, its tranquil and elegant atmosphere. For your religious wedding in Ravello, you can pick from a selection of 4 churches one of them being the 11th century Duomo, rich with artistic treasures like the bronze central door adorned with 54 panels. Civil weddings are performed in the local town hall and it is also possible to have the ceremony outside, weather permitting. Ravello has a range of villas offering fantastic gardens and wonderful views where the sea and the sky intermingle so that you feel that you are really close to God.

The Amalfi Coast does offer an amazing selection of villas which are usually located outside the historical centres most of them of course must be rented from Saturday to Saturday and most of them offer the space and the drama for an exclusive and intimate wedding. The other options available to you can be a wedding in a cove away from the madding crowd which can only be accessed by boat, a wedding party on a boat or a yacht, whatever your needs, the Amalfi Coast provides you with complete uniqueness.
