Wedding in the Bahamas - What You should know about having a wedding in the Bahamas
A wedding in the Bahamas is fast becoming the trend for brides looking for an exotic, romantic, warm weather destination wedding in the Caribbean.
And the reason for this trend is quite evident as the Bahamas has more islands, secluded pink and white powdery sand beaches and crystal clear territorial water than all the islands in the Caribbean combined. In fact the Bahamas has more than 5,000 miles of beaches spread across 700 islands and cays, making the Bahamas home to some of the world's most secluded and exotic beaches.
The Bahamas is also home to some of the world's most luxurious resorts making it the ideal place for not only a wedding but a honeymoon as well and most brides are taking notes as noted by Brides Magazine, the world's oldest and most widely read bridal magazine in its March 2011 issue.
So when it comes to having a wedding in the Bahamas here is what you should know:-
The first requirement for having your wedding in the Bahamas is that you must have a Marriage License issued by the Office of the Registrar General in the Bahamas.
And secondly, you need to have your wedding performed by a Bahamas Licensed Marriage Officer, that is what a certified Wedding Officiant in the Bahamas is called.
And we recommend that you select a Bahamas Wedding Officiant from Bahamas Destinations Wedding as they can also help you get priority approval of your marriage license application.
And what are the requirements for getting a "Marriage License" in the Bahamas?
You must be at least 18 years of age and reside in the Bahamas for at least 24 hours.
Be able to prove that you are who you say you are with proper official photo documents like a passport or birth certificate.
Be able to prove that you are single (never been married), Divorced or Widowed. And you do this with an affidavit of single hood, original or certified copy of Divorce Final Decree or Death Certificate of the deceased spouse.
Visiting the Registrar General's Office at #50 Shirley Street and making an application.
Pay the required Marriage License fee of $100.00
And once approved by the Registrar your Bahamas Marriage License is available for collection the next day.
However, you must know that if you are forty years of age and single it will take at least two weeks for the application to be approved. As a mandatory search of your single hood is required.
And once you have your Marriage License then it is given to your Bahamas Licensed Marriage Officer as his authorization to perform your wedding ceremony.
