Wedding Dress: What Lies Beneath
You can never underestimate the power of panties on your wedding day
. Bridal lingerie has the ability to make you feel confident on the inside because you know you are looking sexy on the outside. The dress is important; but, buying the proper undergarments to go under the dress is what makes all the magic come together. With so many choices, buying that perfect boudoir look can turn into a major Bridget Jones dilemma. Do you want to something to hold everything in, up and apart so you look amazing in your dress or should you find something fierce and sexy for when the dress comes off? It's a big decision, but it doesn't have to come down to granny support panties or lingerie a la Hustler as long as you plan in advance...and here's how:
Lingerie first, dress second. It's really hard to find lingerie that will work for you and do everything you want it to when working around a specific dress. So, you need to decide the lingerie style and fit so you can bring it and wear it under the dresses you try on. The number 1 mistake brides make with lingerie is buying the dress first then the lingerie, Liliya Chobanian of East 13 Lingerie said. The lingerie is the hardest to buy so it needs to be decided first. Plus, its a lot easier to bring a pair of hose and a bra to the dress store than it is to try to lug a big dress around as you shop for a pair of panties, it's just more practical.
Pick a color you like but is discreet. Most brides like to go with a white or nude colored undergarment so the color does not show through the fabric of their dress. If you are wearing a thick fabric and you don't think it will show through then go for color. Remember - always bring wedding day undergarments to your final dress fitting to make sure. I have a lot of girls come in for their fitting with the bra they want to wear that night, fashion expert Jazmin Erving explained. It just makes for an easier fitting because they can see how it is actually going to look all together.
Consider bottom support. No one wants to watch a saggy, flabby fanny make its way down the aisle no matter how pretty the dress covering is. Even if you are wearing a pretty bra and panty set, consider going for a little support where you need it. We always like to remind brides that not everyone is looking at your train, a lot of them are actually looking at your caboose, Sara Blakely of Spanx laughed. They have a captive audience watching them as they walk down the aisle and not having panty lines and everything looking firm gives them a lot more confidence.
Simplify by getting things sewn in. Wearing layers of bras, corsets and body shapers under your dress is bulky and uncomfortable, so consider taking one layer out by having your corset sewn into the bodice of the dress. It will make it easier to move around and give you a little boost while you are thinking about your sexy new spouse. I have had brides who want to wear a corset under their dress so we sew one in there and add garters so its very sexy and surprising to the groom when he undresses her.
Above all, you have to love what you buy and be comfortable in it. It doesn't matter how hot you look if your twelve body shapers are squeezing you to death and you cant breathe. That is not fun for you and everyone else will notice you're uncomfortable. Whether its sexy and daring or more reserved, as long as you feel great in it and it does what it is supposed to, then go for it.
