Wedding Dress: How To Take Preventative Measures To Avoid The Unexpected Stain
Your wedding dress, idealistically would remain perfect at all times
. After spending so much time picking your wedding dress, the last thing you want to happen is an unexpected disaster. This is a dress you will most likely want to keep for many years as a treasured memory. Prevention is easier than cure when it comes to protecting your dress.
When you bring your dress home it needs to be stored in a safe place that will prevent anything from happening before your big day. If you're going to be keeping the dress for a few weeks before your wedding, you need to keep it out of sunlight and keep it on a padded hanger. It will need to hang free without being touched by any other items even when hung in a closet. You must keep it covered because dust is not your friend. A plastic drape or garment bag is not a good idea because it should have an opportunity to breathe. Your best bet is a white, unbleached cotton sheet.
What is wrong with using a garment bag?
The dress will get musty if even the smallest bit of moisture gets in the bag. The dress might yellow in plastic bags. The length of time you store the dress will be a factor, but the risk is not worth it.
Another option is to wrap the dress in tissue paper and fold it.
What can I do to prevent stains?
The obvious food or beverage disaster is not the only one waiting. When deciding on the menu, keep your dress's look in mind. Choosing flowers that have pollen on the stamen can be a problem. Make sure the florist removes anything from your flowers that have stain causing elements like pollen before they are delivered to the wedding.
Wedding day jitters might produce stains. To avoid underarm stains, use a strong antiperspirant. Makeup is another stain-maker so when you put on your dress use a light weight cotton cloth like a pillow case over your head to prevent smearing your dress with your makeup or hairspray. After you put on the dress, do some touch ups, but keep the dress covered. If you are going to be traveling in the dress, you will need to put a towel under you, no matter how clean the car is. Don't take chances. When the wedding ends, and you change out of your dress, it's a good idea to wrap the dress in a white sheet and take it to a cleaner that you trust. You should wash your dress before storing it.
